Course Overview:
Career Exploration arranges in-depth visits to job sites for all sophomores. Students can see first-hand what a day might be like at their dream career. Students learn from professionals in the field to see if they could see themselves in that career.
Job Shadow is for juniors and seniors who are thinking about future careers and wondering what different jobs are like. Every student should take advantage of job shadow opportunities in order to decide which career would be best for them.
Class Behavior: Students must turn in permission slip, be professionally dressed and not be on their cell phones. When on field trip they are representing the Phoenix School District and are expected to behave according to the JCB Handbook. While on the field trip, they are expected to engage with the employers and participate in any activities given to them. Employers on these visits touch upon the skills/education that are needed for employment by their facilities. This gives the students a realistic view of real life expectations. After visitation students reflect and complete an exit survey to establish effectiveness of the trip.
Attendance: Attendance for both Career Exploration and Job Shadowing are currently not mandated. Student participation of 100% is encouraged and frequent attempts are made to promote student involvement. The instructor meets with every student personally to assess their career interests and goals for the future, and to get a better understanding of the students’ interests and needs. With that information, the students are placed to go on a visit that aligned with their career aspirations. Through this process, it will aid the student in identifying sooner those careers which meet their interests and/or allow them to change their career direction if their visitation does not meet their career plan.
Grading Policy: No grade other than participation.
